Certification for experts at EWIVS

Certified experts are experts with extensive experience in a specific field and are characterized by their particular reliability. Their expertise and reliability are checked in accordance with strict standards and recognized criteria, and their activities are continuously monitored. As a result, they enjoy a high level of trust.

As a rule, experts are commissioned by authorities, courts, the economy or the general public. Their names and contact details are therefore listed in directories, such as the EWIVS Certification (EWIVS®) expert directory, and made publicly available on request.

Although personal certification is not mandatory in order to work as an expert, the aim of certification is to provide particularly qualified and suitable experts for courts, authorities and the public. The statements of certified experts are particularly credible from a technical and methodological point of view.

Certification as an expert relates to specific specialist areas and is limited in time. As a rule, certification is valid for up to five years and can be recertified and thus extended on application.

Difference between an expert and an appraiser

The terms “expert” and “appraiser” are often used interchangeably. Courts and authorities prefer the term “expert”, as it appears more frequently in the legal text. In contrast, private individuals tend to use the term “appraiser”. Despite the different designations, experts and appraisers generally have the same tasks.

In court proceedings, an expert/expert supports the decision-making process, but it is at the discretion of the court to evaluate and utilize the expert opinion. An expert opinion is therefore not binding and conclusive for the judgment.
